The Complete Jane Austen (so far)

I just love Jane Austen. The Complete Jane Austen on PBS so far has been a little disappointing. I guess when you really love the books it is hard to see them changed for a movie.

Persuasion was not even close to being as good as the book. It is my favorite book, and they chopped up the best parts terribly. What a disappointment!

Northanger Abbey was good, but it did have scenes in it that were a little racy. Overall, this was a good movie and I would like to see it again.

Mansfield Park was on this past Sunday and I enjoyed it. I would watch that one again as well.

Next Sunday night is a movie about Jane Austen's life. It is called Miss Austen Regrets. I am looking forward to watching this one also.

Is anyone else watching the movies? What do you think?

PBS and Jane Austen

Finally, I have something on Sundays to watch on TV! I am so excited about PBS' Masterpiece Theater devoting the next couple of months to Jane Austen film adaptations. (Just a side note...Part 1 of Jane Eyre was on last Sunday night and Part 2 is tomorrow! LOVE that movie) There is so much on this site. You can enter to win a Complete set of Jane Austen Novels! Also, there is the Teachers Guide and Book Club. I can't wait to go over it all better!! I just wish I had friends who love JA as I do to have a watch party.

It is exciting to see if the films are true to the books. Sometimes they are; sometimes I am disappointed. For example, I am one of those people who did not like the latest "Pride and Prejudice" with Kiera Knightly. I kept having to explain to my husband what was going on and why they were doing what they were doing. Yes, my husband went with me to see this movie! What a man!! I even think we went to a late night (12 am) showing when we were visiting his parents--and he didn't fall asleep! :)

For a birthday or something, I received a copy of the movie "Persuasion." This is probably my favorite book so I was really excited. I didn't like the way that movie ended at all!

Most of the other adaptations I have seen and enjoyed. And just so you know, I watch Persuasion, I just think it could be done better. (Said like a true "arm-chair quarterback")
So, will I watch the Super Bowl? No way! Jane Austen is on!!!

Lizzie Lou

My 9 year old daughter found out I had a blog. Well, actually, I told her about it one day as I as was reading other blogs. She told me I should have a blog of my own; and I confessed that I did, but I didn't write very often.

Today she told me I should write more often because I have a very interesting life.

I don't know where she comes up with this stuff.

Maybe it's the fact that a 3 yr old lives at our house. That in itself is interesting, to say the least!

Or, the fact that we get out at least once everyday to pick up my oldest son from Middle School. Maybe she finds that interesting. ;)

Basically, I think she just wants me to write about her! And why not. She is funny and smart and always keeps me on my toes!

So, here's to you Lizzie Lou, you make my life interesting!!

Veggie Tales

My youngest son is 3 years old. He is a quite a funny boy and has a great imagination. We went to the produce stand this morning and I picked out a tomato and he really wanted to buy a cucumber. I thought to myself how wonderful that he was showing interest and maybe he would actually eat more fresh veggies if he were allowed to help pick them out.

Here is what he did first thing when we got home:

He pulled up his step stool and started playing Veggie Tales! He played for probably 30-45 minutes. Wonder if we can still eat Bob and Larry for supper? Maybe not.

Oh yeah, you can't tell in this picture, but he is wearing his Larry Boy t-shirt, too!

Quotable Quote

"Every person has an eternity to gain or lose. And when we know Jesus we also know the way. Tell many people. Let us work us as long as it is day, you in your corner and I in mine."
